This summer Russian government has forbidden gambling places in the cities and provided casinos with a separate area where they all could be located. Once they all got closed the gamblers started to look for an alternative gambling areas not far from their places of living. The result is obvious – millions of Russian gamblers have rushed to online casinos.

Now we see a completely different picture with Russian cities filled with internet cafes providing access to online gambling rooms where people can entertain themselves by winning a couple of dollars.

Government is not pleased with the result as modern technologies continue to provide the population with what has been forbidden but on the other side the cafes are filling the budget holes which were supposed to be open due to multiple gambling places closure. Unemployment problem is also partially solved with the newly opened cafes. That is why the position of the government towards the gambling cafes is still not clear.

In view of the fact, that all land gambling venues have recently been pushed out of the major cities in Russia, it might become rather hard now for the online casinos to enter the Russian market. To say more, the Russian Government is going to crack down on the prevalence and influence of gambling in the country. Thus, recently, the Russian Ministry of Youth, Sport and Tourism has announced that poker is not classified as a game of sport in the country any more which will definitely lead to the fact that the internet poker industry, like the land casinos, will be pushed out of major cities.
