Simon Poker Day takes place at the PokerStars.com European Poker Tour Dublin

Its aim is to help homeless. Now, it is on target to reach the €100,000 mark next Saturday, Nov. 3.

A seat to the €2,000 Irish Poker Championship that will take place in Galway in the west of Ireland form Jan. 3 to 6, 2008 has just been donated by PartyPoker. Reigning World Snooker Champion John Higgins and Littlewoods-sponsored former Premiership and international footballer Tony Cascarino join already-confirmed former snooker world champions Steve Davis and Dublin native Ken Doherty to play in the event.

PokerStars, Paddy Power Poker, 888, Ladbrokes, Green Joker Poker, Merrion Casino Club, and Card Player Magazine have been very quick making their decision in favor of the annual event. All of them pitch in with satellites into the event, donations or organizational help.

Of the €300 (+€30) buy-in, €100 goes directly to Simon Dublin with the remaining €200 going into the prize pool.

Last year the event proved to be very popular. Over 200 players participated in it. And such players as Donnacha O’Dea, Jesse May, Scott Gray, Julian Gardner, ‘Mad’ Marty Wilson, Dave Colclough, Kevin O’Connell, Nick Leeson, Matthew Stevens, and Stephen Hendry took part in it. They managed to raise just under €50,000 for homeless charity Simon Dublin. Then, Noel Furlong turned out to be a winner.

Boss Media’s Revenues Fell

Boss Media, the Swedish online gambling software developer, is known to have a decline in its operating profit for the third quarter of nearly 35%, and it amounted to $1.84 million. The company’s total revenues turned out to be $10.79 million, which is 11% lower than for the same period last year. As for the net profit for the third quarter, the figure has also dropped from $3.61 million last year to $1.3 million.

Boss Media has also been experiencing the fall of sales from $36.36 million to $36.23 million. Royalty revenues have dropped by 8% to $26.60 million from $28.92 million last year. Operating profit fell to $6.16 million from last year’s $7.04 million and net profit for the nine months was $5.53 million from the previous $8.97 million.

To improve the situation and to increase sales volumes some measures have already been taken by the company. They are working on changing and strengthening sales organization. Besides, the company thinks that the launch of new and updated products is a must in getting higher revenues.

Are the French Turning the European Arrest Warrant into a Political Tool?

With a European arrest warrant issued by a French judge, Petter Nylander on the charge of money laundering and cybercrime, chief executive of Unibet was detained on this Monday at Amsterdam’s Schiphol airport.

The arrest followed the commercial complaint made by Française des Jeux running the lottery, and PMU, the national horseracing board. In accordance with it, Unibet is claimed to have breached their monopoly rights to internet gambling in France.

As for the French government, they feel embarrassed by the arrest and they have ordered the case against Unibet’s executive to be dropped down. Moreover, the case has been criticized by Unibet, the European Commission and Swedish politicians. In their opinion, all Unibet’s operations were legal under EU law.

Unibet is asking for the immediate release of its chief executive.

Casino Affiliate Convention in Macau

Ticonderoga Ventures Inc is planning its first Casino Affiliate Convention on November 28 and 29 at the Venetian Hotel And Casino in Macau. The event is dedicated to affiliate marketing, online advertising and mobile opportunities for Asia for gaming affiliate webmasters and operators.

The first Casino Affiliate Convention took place in Europe five years ago with most of the original attending affiliates becoming super-affiliates with their programs leading affiliate programs in Europe. The same is expected to hold true for the upcoming Macau event.

Mor Weizer, Chief Executive Officer for Playtech, Jason Chan, President for Entertasia, Chen Yu, Vice-President for YeePay, John Ryott, Affiliate Director for Gaming VC, Monte Cahn, Chief Executive Officer for Moniker, and Graeme Eastman, Chief Executive Officer for AffiliateGuide – some of the most respected executives – are expected to speak at the event.

Registration for the Macau event will be over on November 22, as the attendance is limited.

The next event will be held by Ticonderoga at the end of June in Moscow.

Crandell Addington: “Poker is a Microcosm of Life”

Crandell Addington is reported to have participated in a forum, “Poker: A Game of Truth in Life and Law,” by Harvard Law Professor Charles Nesson. Nesson, an advocate of poker as a means of teaching valuable entrepreneurship and life skills such as strategic thinking, geopolitical analysis, risk assessment and money management. Professor has recently founded the Global Poker Strategic Thinking Society.

Addington founded an oil and gas exploration company and ran it for more than 30 years and is currently chairman of Gold Reef International, Inc., a Canadian public company, which he co-founded, focused on precious metals exploration. He is also CEO and chairman of Phoenix Biotechnology, Inc., another company he co-founded, which is developing a novel and promising cancer drug. As for poker, he has been a finalist of the WSOP’s main event seven times. He is a member of the Poker Hall of Fame.

In Addington’s opinion, he is a successful businessman thanks to his experience as a high-stakes poker player. He is sure that rapid strategic shifts and tactical implementations are common for both business and poker. He thinks that “successful players in poker and business must identify their preferred outcome and use their skills to affect that outcome. That’s why poker is a game of skill, not chance as many people mistakenly believe”.

“Crandell Addington had a simple message for Harvard University law students, faculty and others: Poker is a microcosm of life, and good players make their own luck in both arenas”.

The UK: Return of Late Night Poker

The Party Poker Late Night Poker is back and is to be filmed in Cardiff from October 23rd. The tournament will be broadcast on Channel 4 in the UK and Ireland in 2008. Later on it will be internationally distributed. The event is promised to be very popular with the public.

49 players will take part in seven heats that are followed by semi-finals and the final. The buy-in is $5,000. Party poker adds $90,000 to the prize pool.

The winner will take home as much as $125,000.

Andy Black, Roland De Wolfe, Annette Obrestad, and Pascal Perrault all at 20/1 are early favorites.

888.com Launched a Sportsbook in Italy

A new Italian sportsbook belonging to 888.com is reported to have been launched in conjunction with Cogetch.

888.com hinted at its intention to become involved in the Italian market at the annual European Interactive Gaming Congress and Expo (EiG) in Barcelona last month. Cogetch is regarded to be a specialist in the Italian market. So, the choice of 888.com seems to be natural. Their deal is said to last more than one year. According to Gigi Levy, Chief Executive Officer for 888.com, “the Italian sports betting market will be one of the firm’s big areas of focus over the next two years”.

The new sportsbook will be restricted to sports betting with the exclusion of horseracing for the immediate future. Besides, it will offer skill games “with further products added should the Italian regulator allow”.

New WSOP Game on PlayStation 3
