The Methodist Church in NI Expresses Worries Regarding Bookmakers’ Working Hours

With the removal of prohibition on the opening of bookmakers’ offices on Sundays, the Methodist Church in Northern Ireland expressed its concerns and worries. Its report with recommendations from the Church’s Council on Social Responsibility will be presented in June at its annual conference in Cork.

According to the Council’s opinion, if the bookmakers’ offices are opened on Sundays, then their hours of operation should be restricted. Moreover, Easter Sunday should be added to the special days for prohibition.

It must be noted that the population in Northern Ireland is multicultural, and it makes difficult for them to argue for the primacy of one day over another.
