Great Plans of Great Casino

The month of November became one more important step in the development of casino industry since one more casino – Mohegan Sun at Pocono Downs – introduced slot machine gaming. The event became very noticeable thanks to the presence of numerous state and local officials. Even Pennsylvania Lieutenant Governor Catherine Baker Knoll honored casino officials by her presence at the opening of the casino.

The now casino spot  was originally known as Pocono Downs and used to be a harness racetrack that was opened in 1965,  on July 15. Now, the place presents a 90,000 square foot two-level gaming space and a food court. Reconstruction of the site began in September, 2005 and was known to be rather an ambitious project. Its first phase required approximately $72.6 million, while the second phase will probably cost $140 – 150 million.

After the completion of the first phase the casino is able to operate 24 hours a day, seven days a week. There are about 1,100 slot machines, more than 500 reel games, more than 450 video slots and lots of video poker games – all of them being the newest and the most popular. What is also noticeable is that the main level is smoke-free. There you can find one third of all the games, besides – bar and food court. On the first level you will be able to find the majority of the games and of course a snack bar and casino bar.

The second phase sound no less ambitious. After its completion you’ll find there about 2,500 slot machines, a great variety of restaurants, a 300 seat buffet – so the food court will be much more expanded. Besides, there are plans to include retail shops, additional parking and bus amenities.

The plans are really amazing, but we are sure they will come true. The final grand opening is supposed to take place in the middle of 2008.
