June 16th, 2008
Author: Mark Newman

The internet gambling law has been recently passed by the parliament of South Africa. To come into effect the bill should be signed by the president of South Africa Thabo Mbeki.

The aim of the law is to fight the negative effects of online gambling such as money laundering, gambling addiction and player protection.

In accordance with the law every player in South Africa will have to register with a licensed online gambling company proving he or she is over 18 years old. Besides, the law allows electronic monitoring system that helps root out potentially addictive behavior and restricts credit extensions to players.
