Almost no one doubted that the Kentucky Derby favorite, Big Brown, would win. As soon as the horses separated in the back stretch, Big Brown controlled most of the rest of the way.
Big Brown won the Derby by four and three quarter lengths, and will most likely be favored to win the next step of the Triple Crown in two weeks. Though there has been no Triple Crown winner for a long time.
Eight Belles turned out to finish second. Unfortunately the horse broke both of his ankles and had to be euthanized after the race.
