With no casinos in Hawaii, the state, however, manages to collect revenues from the residents who gamble in other states.

In accordance with a new law, gamblers who win a jackpot will have to pay taxes on their winnings, but their losses will not be deducted.

The change in the law is hoped to ease the state’s multi-billion dollar deficit, however, Hawaiian Governor Lingle has some time until July 15th either to veto the new tax code or to confirm the change in the law which lots of gamblers consider unjust and unfair.
